Hoorn
Hoorn was once the principal town of West Friesland. Together with Medemblik and Enkhuizen the rich pastoral area is known as the Drechterland. Hoorn is one of the most attractive towns in Noord-Holland along the IJsselmeer the former Zuiderzee.

The towns centre is the Rode Steen, which is surrounded by beautiful buildings such as the Waag (weigh house) originally from 1609, the impressive Staten College (Council building) which was the meeting place of the delegates of the Noorderkwartier, the Seven Towns of Holland north of the IJ River. Its magnificent façade bear the coat of arms of Orange-Nassau and West Friesland and seven lions holding each a coat of arms of the seven towns. Today the Museum with fine rooms and woodwork is beautiful inside as out. The collection focuses on the history of Hoorn and contains archaeological and medieval material, furniture, tiles, silver, porcelain as well as paintings.

Medemblik
Medemblik an old town and port. Count Floris V built a fortified castle her, known today as Kasteel Radboud. The name derives from the pagan king of the Frisians, Radbout or Radbod, who is supposed to have lived in Medemblik around the year 700.
The town centre has some charming canals and beautiful facades and two small museums, the Bakkerijmuseum De Oude Bakkerij, which has a variety of baking utensils and demonstrations and the Nederlands Stoomachinen-museum which gives an overview of all kinds of steam engines and steam-run machinery.

Nowadays the railway is in use as a tourist attraction. The masterpiece in the collection is the former Nederlandse Spoorwegen locomotive 7742 Bello, the Netherlands' only preserved light steam engine.
The serviceable steam tram carriages originate from the provinces Friesland, Gelderland, Noord-Holland, Zuid-Holland and Zeeland. The livery and presentation of the cars is as they were in 1926. The 20 Kilometre long ride between Hoorn and Medemblik takes approximately 1 1/2 hours.

  • Guided stroll through the towns of Hoorn and / or Medemblik combined with a ride on the historic steam train.

  • Ride on the historic steam train from Hoorn to Medemblik followed by a cruise on the IJsselmeer to Enkhuizen.
